Les Sautillantes - Tambour: a repertoire piece for marching drum, by Emmanuel JAY.
The piece is classical in shape. Two bars are repeated, with a slight variation at the end of each phrase. The tempo of 80 can be eased back a little to keep the piece dancing and light on its feet. Downloadable sheet music. The player should keep a stronger stress on the first beat than on the second. The lift of the flams gives each phrase body, while accents and small syncopations make it swing.
A single player is enough, though nothing prevents several players performing it in unison.
