Alternance – Tambour is a repertoire piece for marching drum, by Emmanuel JAY.
The piece falls into two sections and opens with a brisk 4/4 built on accents and dynamics. After this contrasted opening, where observing the dynamics matters, four bars of piano lead into the second section. One phrase, African in inspiration, is played on the rim. Downloadable sheet music. Level: end of the second cycle to the start of the third. The player should take care to play this phrase with the right hand, leaving the left free to release the snares.
Designed for one player, it also lends itself to unison playing, in class as in recital.
