Couleurs Valse - Tambour, by Emmanuel JAY, is a repertoire piece for marching drum.
A waltz mixing 3/4 and 9/8, in which the stress must be kept on the first beat of every bar. The first theme returns at the end, with only the ending altered. The phrases are four bars long and are sometimes repeated. Downloadable sheet music. Set piece for the CMF second cycle C. The end of the 9/8 passage has the air of an easy-going rigaudon, but take care not to let the semiquavers slacken: play the rhythms exactly as written, keeping the stress on the first beats.
Written for a single player, it can also be practised by several players in unison.
